A busy week of competition was started by this years CCL Land O’Burns 10k Road Race which took place last Wednesday and had an increase in entrants to over 300. This no doubt is in a large part due to the excellent sponsorship of the event given by CCL Logistics of Troon with increased cash prizes for the first 3 finishers in both the male and female categories, additional spot prizes and goodie bags being given to all participants.
Conditions on the night were excellent with dry, sunny weather being the order of the day for a race which starts on the sea front at Seafield then winds its way through Doonfoot & Alloway past Burns Cottage before coming to a conclusion within the Old Racecourse.
In the mens race it was Sean Chalmers of Inverness Harriers who took the title with a new course record of 31:17.5 followed by Stuart Gibson (31:58.7) of Cambuslang Harriers and Colin Whitby (34:49.9) of Irvine Running Club. The womens race also a new course record of 36:59.0 set by Toni McIntosh of Ayr Seaforth AC who was also 12th overall. Second place in the womens race went to Julie Beveridge (40:27.7) of Calderglen Harriers whilst third place went to Andreea Petrescu (41:43.1) who ran as unattached.
