League Competition Roundup

May has been a busy month for competitions already with the first in a series of league meetings commencing as well as district championships taking place. Many club volunteers will be stretched as we help organise and  assist at these competitions but we will try and keep members updated with results. If you haven’t already joined us on Facebook please do as updates on results are shared more easily there.

YDL (Division 2) Meeting 1 – 1st May 2022

Results – PDF

Results – Power of 10

Ayr Seaforth have joined forces with North Ayrshire AC to create “Team Ayrshire” as we look to advance to Division 1 at the end of this season. Our athletes put together some great performances to push Team Ayrshire to the top of Division 2 after the first league meeting with a total of 590 points. This was almost 100 points ahead of the second place team.

Thank you to all of the athletes who competed and everyone who volunteered and helped to organise.

Meeting 2 will be held at Kilmarnock on Sunday 22nd May.

CSSAL (Division 2) Meeting 1 – 8th May 2022

Results – Excel

One week after YDL we had the first meeting of the Central and South of Scotland League at Crownpoint in Glasgow. Ayr Seaforth are currently in Division 2 of this league and again are hoping to top the table and progress to Division 1. For the first time, in what feels like a very long time, most of our athletes travelled together to the event by coach which helped create a fun team environment, especially for the youngsters.

There was a great range of brilliant performances from athletes in all age groups and, as you would expect at this type of event, many athletes stepped out of their comfort zone and covered events they don’t normally train for. It was especially great to see our U11 athletes in action, some of whom were competing properly for the first time!

Isla Milligan was one of the stars of the day taking 1st place in all 3 of her events (80m, 600m and Long Jump) as well as steering our mixed U11 4×100 relay team to 1st place.

Our middle distance boys all gave strong performances on the day. Louis Gibson (2:35) took 1st place in the U13 Boys 800m and was closely followed by Matthew Copland (2:40) who came home in 3rd. Conor Scobie (2:11) was 2nd in the U17 Men 800m A race whilst Ethan Polson (2:15) was 1st in the B race with the 3rd fastest time overall after Conor. It was a similar story in the Masters Men 800m as Kenny Neill (2:18) was 2nd in the A race as Brian Robinson (2:19) won the B race.

After the first meeting, Ayr Seaforth stand in 2nd place only a few points behind leaders Shettleston Harriers but well ahead the rest of the competition. Thank you to everyone who made the day such a great success, particularly Simon and Ruth, our main organisers for this league.
